What does holistic health mean?
It seems to be an expression very frequently used but not necessarily understood, to me it means health involves all the aspects of your being in harmony, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.
These aspects cannot be separated they are all part of your well-being.
As I was preparing some topics for my next yoga class I was reflecting on the concept of a positive mind and the effects on your health and for those of you that know me, I consider myself a very positive person, by nature but also by choice.
And by positive I don't mean rose colored glasses but rather wanting to see the beauty and live in amazement.
Life will always throw some curve balls, challenges, pain death, they are part of our human life and we would not appreciate the great things that come our way otherwise. So as you don't really have a choice in the things that will happen to you, you can only really decide how to react.
The power of your mind has a huge impact on your health, I can see it on a daily basis in my massage yoga and Pilates clinic in Geneva, some of my clients have already given up, the pain has been there so long that when they come to see me they have already lost hope. In this cases a change of attitude is very important in order to regain control of their life, pain levels and health. The first thing is to measure the small achievements, it might be the pain reducing from 10 to 8 or is not being there 24/7.
So can we shift our mind in order to find greater harmony and live the exact same experience in a different way?
Start changing your words external and more importantly internal. Make a conscious choice to look at things in a more positive way, there is always another side to be observed.
There is patterns for example clients saying I will never get better, the pain is always worse, I can't do this or that. And don't get me wrong I am not promoting a miraculous cure but simply a shift from what is not working to what it's working. If you think of how many body systems are constantly working in your body you will soon realize that the things that are working greatly outnumber what is not. Are you breathing, your heart is pumping blood around, eating and digesting food, have hormonal balance.. well your body is working hard and functioning.
The constant talk I am not good enough, I can't do this or that, I am too fat, too old, too cranky, too set in my way, is only reinforcing your present experience of not getting better.
For those of you not familiar with his work Masuro Emoto is Japanese scientist that has measured the power of words. In his experiments he was able to prove that different messages impact the way water crystal form, so considering our body is made by 70% of water perhaps it's time for kinder words
For a point of reflection
